("You would face me, then? Tis a fool's choice, Arisen. But better fool than craven. I knew your mind ere you came... Still, I ask this final time. Arisen, will you stand and fight?")
It was really hard to pick a single quote for this guy since everything he says is gold. Check his page on the Dragon's Dogma wiki dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Gr… for his Tolkien worthy dialogue.
So Dragon's Dogma's plot can be a little slow at times, but it's always good whenever the dragon you're trying to kill shows up. Despite a giant monster bent on causing destruction, he's extremely polite and well-spoken. He did take the Arisen's heart setting the game in motion, but when confronted at the end of the main game he offers the chance of leaving, at the cost of killing the love interest, and letting the Arisen lie and say he/she killed him and take the glory like he did so in the past with another Arisen. Regardless of choice he supports it, but judging by the dialogue in the fight he actually wants to die.
Not much else is known about him from the lore in the initial game, he never actually gives out his name. It was speculated by a lot of fans that he used to be an Arisen himself, which later lore reveals to be true. He was Arisen who tried to kill the god-like Seneschal, in a cycle where an Arisen kills the Seneschal and takes their place. Those who fail get turned into dragons who ravage the world until a new Arisen can kill them. The cycle requires the strongest to be the Seneschal to maintain, and it requires many sacrifirces.
Grigori isn't a hugely active villain since he's probably waiting for the Arisen get strong enough to fight him. Dragon's Dogma is world full of huge and dangerous monsters but dragons are the worst. Their appearance brings disaster and if they chose to, or were allowed, could likely wipe humanity from the face of the planet, Grigori is said to have destroyed whole countires in seconds. In game there's even a doomsday cult that popped led by an asshole called the Elysion who is trying to get Grigori's attention, and does, with Grigori killing the bastard and commenting how annoying his rants were.
As a boss does the predictable dragon things, flies, breaths fire, his sheer size size means he can claw, stomp, and swat with his tail. But he also has a number of magic attacks (fire breath aside, which also considered magic). He can take control of an Arisen's pawn and use all the highest level magic in the game. And he continues all his amazing dialogue the made him such a memorable character.
Smaug (The Hobbit): Most obvious idea. They both steal every scene they appear in with their stellar dialogue, and everybody is scarred to death of them, with good reason even Grigori in a lot of ways is the opposite of Smaug.
Chosen Undead (Dark Souls): Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma have a similar dark fantasy setup with a brutal cycle. Grigori even was Dragon's Dogma' counterpart to one of the undead before he was a dragon.
Kalameet (""): I figure with all the dragon bosses in Dark Souls I should at least bring up one.
Ancient Dragon (Dark Souls 2): I don't want to flood this with Dark Souls bosses so I'll end it with this dragon who is a powerful optional boss and the largest boss in a game full of huge bosses. Also this dragon like Grigori isn't malicious, fighting it is optional since it only attacks the player when provoked, by the player attacking it. You monster. Also the locals around it worship it like a god.
Dragon God (Demon's Souls): No reason to leave Demon's Souls out. This boss fight isn't as epic as he should be despite getting shown off in the intro and killing the player if they survive the fight they're supposed to lose, but that's no it's fault, it's stuck in an arena it can't freely move around in and even then if it spots the player they are dead.
Guts (Berserk): We knew this guy would be here with Beserk being on the quint essential dark fantasy settings. Plus Dragon's Dogma does a few homages to it. Lets see if the Dragon Slayer can live up to its name.
Predaking (Transformers Prime): Moving away from fantasy and into science fiction, with fantasy elements, we have a mechanical space dragon.
Berserker Lancelot (Fate Zero): Knight, dragon, they both are hoping for a good death.
Acnolgia (Fairy Tail): This monster has a similar backstory to Grigori having once been a human, but personality wise he's the exact opposite. Acnolgia hates humans to the point where he won't even speak with him, because he's a jerk, and was a violent murderer as a human and as dragon he's even worse.
Alduin (Elder Scrolls): Dragon shows up at the start of the game and the goal of the hero is to kill him. Sounds like Dragon's Dogma might have taken a bit of a que from Skyrim, and actually did a much better job with its villain since Alduin barely has any relevance to the lore in Skyrim outside of the main quest, and his supposed motivations contradict his dialogue.
Deathwing (Warcaft): This dragon is a straight up villain. While Grigori is used as part of vicious cycle, Deathwing was picked by an evil god named N'Zoth to destroy the world, and he's embraced it with all the evil and hamminess one would expect.
Maleficent (Disney): Probably the most well known western animated dragon, even if she's actually a fairy.
Red Death (How to Train Your Dragon): Design wise the Red Death wouldn't be too out of place in dark fantasy setting. And even if it sits around most of the movie it still bring disaster to all around it.
Any takers?
Rules For Anybody Selling Commisions
The near year has come so I am up for ordering commissions again. However, because I got scammed, and in one case spent money on art that wasn't to my satisfaction, I am setting up some rules. If anybody who notices I order commissions comes to my account in the future and wants my money, you have to follow these rules, or you get no money; I am not making new contacts for commissions via Discord anymore. If someone comes to me, it has to be through devaintart so I can determine if your account has anything to my liking or if the the art there has a consistent style. I got scammed by someone using the account name juliaclara12 and when I got to see his account, I saw the art had no consistent style making it clear he was using AI image creators to fill out his account, not to mention his clients weren't named. I will not commission any AI generated art. I use Bing Image Creator because it is free and refuse to spend money on AI generated images. All payments are done through
I complete a Dungeons and Dragons Rite of Passage
Or at least, I feel it's a rite of passage. That being to derail a DM's plan and force them to adjust. Continuing from last time with the AANE group, where I was playing as a Sorcadin searching for her missing sister in an evil university, the party sneaked into a building. The DM's intent was for us to sneak onto this ship. Instead, we tried searching for clues, and one of our players got caught in a trap and taken away by guards. I was sneaking around with Invisibility cast, so I followed them to the prison, where the captured player, a Conquest Paladin, frightened all but one of the guards away by casting Fear. That one was going to attack the Paladin, so I broke Invisibility to cast Hold Person. I was hoping that with this guard caught in the Paralysis condition, that would mean he would talk. Except the DM decreed that the guard was drunk off his ass, so I used Lesser Restoration to get him sober. He still wasn't talking; I didn't realize he was stalling until
Not paying for anymore commissions this year
Since I started to post commissioned work I have noticed people coming to me asking me to pay for more commissions. I like the stuff I have gotten, however, I find my inability to say "no" has led to me spending a ton of cash, even when I have managed to negotiate split payments at a reduced cost. So to avoid going down a rabbit hole while overdrawing my bank account, I have decided that I will not order any more new commissions this year or in the near future. To any artists whose work I would probably like, sorry, but you are going to have to wait until I decide I am ready to order any more commissions.
End Of My Trip To England
The day after visiting the tank museum, my mom and I visited the town of Bath, a settlement that dates back to the days of the Roman occupation of England. This town has one of the most visited abbeys in the country, the site of the Roman hot spring baths, and some modern day baths using the hot springs that we didn't use. The following day, we visited the National Portrait Gallery and made a return to one of the sites I visited on my first trip to England, the Imperial War Museum. I paid more attention to the history in the former museum than the pictures. The war museum has a collection of 20th century weapons and military vehicles that could be fit inside the building, including some planes and tanks. One of the most striking sites for me is the WWI display which shows a model Russian soldier with no gun, emphasizing how outclassed the Russians were against the Germans. Two exhibits that weren't there the last time were one on spies and one on The Troubles. The former

Well I already see a couple of matches that'll work great with Grigori. Looks like his duel Alduin is gonna be put on hold for now...
